| Hi Can anyone tell me how they can connect the roof top scan of a commercial premise when the only way up is a step ladder screwed into wall The rise is about 30 feet. I don't want to create a separate model for roof top but have it in same model for this building |

| If you’ve shot the exterior of the building, you can usually connect by placing the camera where it can see over the edge of the roof down to some unique geometry that was captured at ground level and get a connection that way. Alternatively: I haven’t used the merge feature but I understand that you can essentially force a merge by lining up the two scans as best you can and merging. | ||

| Scan from a distance, get a lot of the surrounding area and go as high as possible. Climb on the roof and scan towards the edge. Assuming you have a pro 3? If you have a 2 it is going to be difficult. Can you get access to a large tripod? If so, then a 2 could work if you scan about half way up | ||

| If you don’t have access to the merge function, the best you can do is get a huge tripod and raise it in steps to make a mid-air stairway. Finally linking the roof. This method is advisable even if you intend to use the merge function because sometimes it fails or doesn’t make a connection with the other floors anyway. |

| @Harrycayman hey Harry! Can you scan from the ground along the perimeter of the building? maybe 10 feet away from the wall, then create a new tour scanning the roof getting as close to the edge as possible. Then merge. I've done that on a building and there was enough splatter from the roof scan to align with the ground scan. |

| Using the Merge tool will give you what you need. Mark the floor as Roof Top. The Merge tool isn’t the most intuitive. Once the merge completes. You can delete the roof top portion from your Spaces. If you’re having issues with it. Matterport Support will assist in completing your project. |

| Do you have access to a survey rental company where you rent a telescoping rental tripod. Lots of these work both ways, you can go so high from the ground, then it will invert and lower for man hole work. They use this for scanners and usually rent cheap. | ||

| For such jobs I carry this, less than $200: https://a.co/d/0gRXvXIl … in addition to my regular gear. Lifts the Pro 3 way high. It will wobble a little as the Pro 3 rotates but just stand at the base with hands around the extended pole. It will work. I’ve done hundreds of spins with this, scanning up through suspended ceilings to map the plenum. Works great, though there is a ‘system’ to follow in plenum maps. |
