Anthropic's Claude Mythos: Too Dangerous to Release? What are your thoughts on this? Last week Anthropic released a report about its new AI model called Claude Mythos preview and made the unusual decision not to release it to the public. The model was trained to be a generally smarter AI, but during testing it developed an unexpected capability: it became over five times better at finding security vulnerabilities than the previous generation of models introduced just months earlier. We're talking about software that controls banking systems, power grids, water systems, and virtually everything we rely on daily. Instead of releasing the model and cashing in ahead of their upcoming IPO, Anthropic chose to give it to the organizations that need it most so they can harden their systems before other AI labs catch up in six to 12 months. I would like to believe that the fact Anthropic is not releasing this currently but announcing it speaks to their moral compass. As former AI CEO Matt Schumer put it in this segment, he's never seen a company about to IPO show this kind of restraint. That said, Anthropic themselves warned that if this technology falls into the wrong hands, the fallout for economies, public safety, and national security could be severe. My next thought: how far away from Terminator are we? Topics covered in this discussion include: Anthropic, Claude Mythos, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software vulnerabilities, AI safety, national security, banking security What's your take? Is Anthropic doing the right thing here, or does the fact that this capability exists at all keep you up at night? Share your thoughts below. |
