DJI drone issue looking for help: restricted airspace20801

ron0987 private msg quote post Address this user
I have job near military base but outside of restricted air space as verified by Aloft. I verified this prior to driving to job. I arrived on job opened Aloft app and verified I was cleared to fly and close but .1 mile away from military base. Started up DJI app verified software updated before I went to this job. Started up drone and got warning message I was in restricted air space and could not fly. I looked at restriction which was same that Aloft said I was .1 mile clear of. I thought DJI aligned their app with Aloft? How do I get DJI to recognize this boundary so I can complete this job.

You're not the first person to run into these issues. I want to say some other Facebook group members have had the same issue. Aloft says you're good to go, photographer arrives and gets told at take off they're in restricted airspace. I haven't tested flying near my military bases to test the issue since DJI announced dropping the Geofence feature.

You did everything right by updating your app and drone software prior to make sure that geofence is gone from previous versions. Best I can come up with is if you are near a submarine base, some of their flight restrictions had an end date in 2024. That were unofficially extended that Aloft does not pick up on (because there is no reissue date with an end date).

Blame the DOGE issue or lack of people supporting FAA software and apologize for the government bureaucracy shake up. It's not your fault. Simply cracks in the system you cannot control without picking political sides to upset the client.

There's a few updates you might need. 1. Software, 2. Firmware (drone & controller), 3. Geo zone update. There is also an unlocking process at https://fly-safe.dji.com/unlock/unlock-request/ but I haven't had to use that since the latest updates removed most (or all?) geo fencing that prevents take off. Using the unlocking was a big hassle because you have to do well ahead of time and then import the unlock from the controller to the aircraft while using the controller app with the drone battery draining and the app software glitching and crashing.

@ron0987 - I don't have Autel. Still flying the Air2S. My understanding is they had no Geofencing.

Your story stands out from someone pointing out a Google Maps picture that picked up the Manta Ray.

I have an Autel Evo Pro 2 and can confirm they do not. Live near an air force base with no issues.
