This is something I just cannot understand, and I keep asking the same question why would you not take a simple step to protect yourself. Run a video thru your home document your belongings. My son was an adjuster for a larger insurance company and we were talking about the LA fire and he has still a few connections there. They were trying to get him to go back because of the desperate need for adjusters. I said why would there be a need for a lot of adjuster. He said each house will still need an independent quote, I asked why they would just write it as a total loss and he said they hope they can nickel and dime client down with requests for documentation. So I go back to either a quick video or magic a Matterport, Realsee, Iguide or any other 3d walk thru to document the house and belongings. Appraiser are using them why wouldn't insurance companies mandate on any home over a certain price. My son while working for that insurance company never got along with his boss whenever he talked Matterport(knowing it capabilities)and was told you permanently documenting something we may have to pay for at a later date. He would always say is that what they are paid to do. That is one of the reasons he left. I have a Matterport of my home and Photos of key items and updates. But in this times of trouble being required to make a list of everything in your home and the insurance company make you go thru this instead of just maxing the claim out just does not make since to me. some of you in the adjuster world please set me strait or give me some new insight on this. You are also to do this from memory because everything is gone. |

@ron0987 I just posted a blog about this related to wildfires but it could apply to floods, hurricanes, tornados, etc. Some insurance companies send people out with Matterport cameras to scan spaces and put it in Xactimate. I had an issue at my house that required insurance stepping in and they were about to until I offered to scan the area with my pro3 and send them the file, they were happy they didn't have to pay someone to do it. |

@ron0987 I’m tied up today and will try to respond in more depth later. But, in short, your concerns are important and well founded. As I’ve mentioned before, I am an independent adjuster. The concept of well documented pre-loss inspections can be an opportunity for capture techs, however the process is fraught because the documentation could be evidence that cuts both ways. | ||
