Accessibility and 3D Scans.20610

I don't have any use cases yet. But I was wondering if this is on someone else's radar.

I've been reading the book "Unmasking Autism" (I'm autistic), there is a great deal of information about public spaces being inclusive of all disabilities. It got me wondering if 3D scans would be helpful for some disabilities.

I realize that real-time SLAM is probably the best option for some disabilities.

I know that virtual tours and 360's are very helpful for people with autism. I've done this myself, getting to know the space before you actually show up. For some it's to know where to enter the building, restroom locations, and where/how customer service works. I know it sounds a little creepy to research spaces, but it helps with anxiety and getting flustered.

I don't know. It just got me thinking about it.

Oh cool!!!

"3. Wayfinding: Allow students/parents to "walk" the school prior to students returning to schools. This is particularly true when students have extra challenges such as autism. The 51+ schools that 3D Showcase scanned in the UK - for one client - all specialized in autistic students. The "walk" the school prior to students returning to schools helps reduce anxiety."

Hi

We are based in the UK and have a contract with a group of autistic schools

We have scanned in the region of 45 Schools

Our clients use the tours for marketing but more importantly for familiarisation for the new pupils coming to the schools who are anxious

They love the VR offering

The school Maintenence team also use it for Maintenence and outside contractors

Hi,
I scanned a large university building which is a medical student training hub, and it was done so that the yearly influx of 800 new students, could get familiar with the building layout and surroundings, before ever arriving there. A nice perk provided from the college to help ensure smooth transition and orientation. Of course it's also very useful for facilities planning / maintenance etc.
