When I started by business in 2013 I used an off the shelf box software to design our website. At the time I ran it thru a Google rating platform and got a 90 or 92. We continue to use it until the software was no longer supported by the parent company and I could no longer update our prices, photos or info. Then in 2022 we got hacked. I know nothing about any of the new softwares so went to Fiverr. New design new look things great. Not even 7 months and hacked again can’t get ahold of the first Fiverr developer find second developer get second website up and we get hit again over the weekend. I am going to reach out to the developer but does anyone have any recommendations. I know it’s not much but $500 to each developers in less than a year is more than I want to continue to pay for web design. Any suggestions.

I am just running a Wordpress site that I pieced together over the years. I run Jetpack service on my site that keeps a back up of my site which at least allows me to rewind to a previous state should a problem arise

I use Wordpress as well. Relatively easy to design a website. You choose a style that you like and add titles, headers, paragraphs, pictures and videos.
It’s easy to change things around myself versus waiting and paying someone else to make changes. WP has simply videos to guide you through the process.
Sorry to hear you’ve been hacked.
Best,

@ron0987 so whats cool is that you have the work from fiverr so you just need to but it on a reliable hosting. If it was hacked recently your host should have a backup before the hack. get them to restore then delete all admins but you. delete all ftp or sftp accounts period. change your site pw and login to your host

now that its up do a malware scan and if you find something submit it to your host provider. If they don't fix that let me know

I've used Squarespace, Wix, and Godaddy, i've handcoded html and java based websites 20+ years ago and tried wordpress. out of everything I prefer Godaddy... I haven't had any issues with data loss, downtime, etc. Their customer service is great.

here's some sites i've built with godaddy.

i'd recommend checking out godaddy and seeing if you like them.

I would always build my website myself, because your website is your main communication tool and needs updates and fresh content regularly. A blog is a very useful tool to attract buyers, so I would always build around a blog feature.

This 7-step list in "how to plan your website in 7 steps" from GoDaddy is a good starting point.

I would choose one platform from this list and build a new website on my own. I have used some of the tools listed in this article, it is a well curated list of platform recommendations.

I am building my website on Shopify, just because I like Shopify and as long as you stay in the "Pause and Build" subscription (without selling products) you get an awesome list of features for just 10 USD per month. I am regularly building websites for my clients and whenever we need e-commerce functions, then we land on Shopify.

I´ve also used Squarespace for one client last year and it did a great job on SEO. But the webiste builder is sometimes strange when changing colors etc.

Carrd is really cheap and maybe useful if you want to build small landing pages for your clients.

Webflow is the most powerful tool. If you dare to dive into this (it is more difficult than others), it is the most powerful website builder out there.

I used Wordpress too, but I always had issues with wordpress and I do not like the interface and the way you have to configure it to start a website.

One last recommendation. Start small and build your website step by step. Maybe also take a look into Wix , they have added AI to their builder and AI is a key element for all publishers of the future.

@MeshImages Your site looks great! what if you wanted to now start selling through it? Would all your current features remain in place, just an increase in payment? I ask because I have a Shopify site for a side hustle I have. I have paid $39 per month for years and I hardly do anything with it because I hate the layout. So, unfortunately, it is not making any money.

@srennick

Yes, everything stays in place as long as you do not change your theme. You simply, switch to a higher subscription tier. Only theme migration, even theme updates are always critical in Shopify as you might loose some customizations you made to the page(s) or to the code.

As long as you do not make sales I would recommend to switch to "Pause and Build" and only pay the 10 USD per month instead of 39 USD. The "Pause and Build" can be activated under Settings/Plan and then you probably have to cancel the subscription before they make this special offer to you. But to be sure better ask an AI what are the exact steps.

My theme is a bought theme from the Shopify store, I think it cost around 300 USD. There are great themes for great storytelling in the store. It is worth to invest some time in testing, what are the necessary theme features that you want and what theme has these features already built-in. It is often better to buy the right theme instead of working with many costly apps to add features that you need.

You can download any theme for free and test and visualize internally. Only when you want to publish your store, you have to buy it.

I actually started small with this new theme. Currently I am translating all Blogs to German and then I will build more pages and then also products. I want to sell the hosting and additional services directly through Shopify.

I found the actual "3D Scan booking process" too complex (for me) to put it into the Shopify store as I am not selling standardized (residential) scan products. And corporate recurring clients want to email me directly instead of putting together complex scan ordering products with payment via corporate credit card.

But we will see, I will for sure put a "Request a Quote product" for 3D Tour Scans and other services on the Shopify site. But to put online payment and to automate and run the whole "Quotation" process into my Shopify store, like Matterport did with the Scan Ordering Process, is too complex for my Berlin-based Matterport business.
