People who watched my interview with @DanSmigrod last week will know that I combine the Matterport Pro2 with the Leica BLK in commercial scans. Today I had an issue I have never encountered before with camera compatibility.

It is well known that you need that first Matterport camera shot before you start bringing on the Leica data. Even doing that today I just couldn’t get the Leica data into the scan for about 2 hours.

It seems that the scan subject was the issue. There were several large round vats in the room and the Pro2 was having a hard time aligning them. After the alignment I started trying the Leica on some of the empty space near the vats but no good.

I could start a new scan with just the Leica and it would scan fine but then I couldn’t use the Pro2 as I hadn’t started with the Pro2 first.

So I started trying to scan that empty space with the Pro2 but as you can guess about one in three shots would misalign.

Finally for the about tenth time I tried the Leica (by now at least 3ft from the nearest round vat). It worked!

This must be something about how the Leica and the Pro2 read the shape of the round objects in the room. Very situational but if you find yourself trying to combine scans and need to change camera stay away from big round objects.
