Dan,

This is my take on buying a Pro3 verses a Pro2. This is a really hard decision for a small operation and it there are a lot of pit falls. The big one I will point out I am a two person operation and only own 1 Pro2 and 1 Pro3. The Pro 3 was bought for a commercial contract and after one year of service and fifty scans the drive went out. The camera was purchased on an accelerator pack so it did have a 3-year warranty. One of the good things Matterport did they change the camera out fast which was great under warranty. I got the camera back, but no longer had contract work so to use the camera I know had to purchase a pro plan, for agents, they did not seem to care if I used a Pro2 or 3. When I calculated carrying cost for contractors and builders for long term hosting they refused to pay the fees.

Now the bad new for any considering a Pro3, five months on the new camera and like my last post that I am out of the Matterport business I sent my camera to Mike at Matterfix who is by far the BEST. He bought my camera and said the drives was going out on it after only 5 months 15 scans, my luck it was still under warranty.

So small business if you can afford to keep sending a known defective device in why do you want to do that. It most cases it can only be used for short term hosting because the break down for long term hosting on a pro plan will be to expensive for the average business.

@DanSmigrod Which Pro depends on what you are scanning. I have happily been using a Pro2 for almost 6 years. However, My default recommendation would be the Pro2.

If you are doing almost all interior scans then a Pro2 is the way to go.

If the scans are going past 200 spots consider pairing it with an iPad Pro.

If the scans are going past 700 spots consider using the new “merge” feature that is in Beta, and dividing your scans.

If you can’t divide scans for reasons like upload costs etc., then I recommend buying a Pro3 or a Leica BLK. As the question is Pro2 or Pro3 I won’t get into the benefits or drawbacks of those two devices.

The final use that would make me recommend a Pro3 would be large outdoor spaces that need to be done quickly. Neither the Pro2 or the Leica can do both “outdoor” and “quickly” at the same time (the Leica is the better choice for outdoor but it is not “quick”).

So to sum up: Only buy a Pro3 if you are doing large indoor spaces in one scan file or you want to do outdoor spaces quickly. Otherwise Pro2 all the way.

Incidentally, I would go for a Leica BLK G1 over a Pro3 any day.
