@GlennTremain

Yes. You can use a 360 camera to shoot a Matterport virtual tour.

Here are the 360 cameras supported by the Matterport Capture app, according to Matterport Support.

While this Matterport Support page does not presently include Insta360 X4, I could imagine we will see Matterport officially support the Insta360 X4 soon.

The advantages of using a 360 camera to shoot a Matterport are:

1. speed of capture since you are not waiting for the Matterport Pro2 or Pro3 Camera to rotate.
2. cost of camera

The disadvantages of using a 360 camera to shoot a Matterport are:

1. lower image quality (some may say, "good enough" versus the speed of capture tradeoff)
2. lower accuracy of measurements (some would say "good enough" for residential listings
3. 360 cameras not supported for some Add Ons such as: CAD, BIM, E57, TruePlan [See Feature Grid]

Does the above help?

Best,

Dan

Dan, I would remove "the speed of capture tradeoff" as I personally cannot see it any faster. You can walk with a pro3/pro2 rotating hiding yourself behind it but with a 360 camera you will need to hide for every shot and it takes time to hide and come back. Plus cortex that is used for this camera to convert visual data to 3D before starting an alignment is more likely required more time to process it than it is required for Pro2/pro3 scans.

The only real advantage of 360 cameras for Matterport versus using their native devices is that it is instant all sides capture which can eliminate moving objects/subject ghosting. However you can still ghosts from HDR merging.
