| When I read the title of this post I was instantly transported back to my childhood. My Dad encouraged my brothers and I to follow good comedy and he once brought home a vinyl LP of the satire comedy of Tom Lehrer. One of my favorites is, naturally, now found on YouTube. At the time Tom created this, the Vatican's current leadership had okayed the use of "modern" music in Catholic masses for the first time. It also, for the first time, permitted the saying of mass in languages other than Latin. Tom engaged music in his comedy and came up with this: The Vatican Rag - by Tom Lehrer Lehrer was a creative and topical comedian. I'm sure he was an influence on a young George Carlin. He hosted a weekly TV show called "That Was the Week That Was" which was incredibly clever. If you want to be entertained, 1950-60's style, check into Tom Lehrer's work. |
