Matterport Pro3 slow to align scans when scanning: Help?19913

Hi all,
I have a Pro3, with a 1 yr old iPad Pro 5th Gen, 16 GB RAM, and 2 TB memory, with hundreds of GB free in memory.
I have a problem with slooow align times, it varies a bit, but at it's worst during a day of scanning, it might take a full minute or more to align a scan, after the rotation capture.
It's not always when it's hot or the iPAd is hot. Not always when many scans into a project, but it does seem a little worse often toward the end of the day, as if the equipment is as tired as I am...
I've tried re-booting many times. Also, my iPad often just turns off as if sleeping, or sometimes the capture app just closes for no reason, so I'm forced to re-start the app.
All of this is inconsistent in occurrence. Does anyone have a similar situation & recommendations?
I finally called Matterport today, and they want me to fill out the forms to start an RMS return process for the camera (but not sure if they will ultimately decide that that's what is needed or not).
I'd appreciate any advice. I don't want to be down due to lack of equipment, and it is working well, just slowly.
It really hit home when I saw a recent helpful video by Tom Sparks doing a large space in real time, and his scan times were waay faster than mine

I would back up all of the data you want to keep from the iPad and then do a factory reset and just load the basics back on to the iPad. If it still is slow, I would suspect a memory problem with the iPad.

To add to above, I cannot think of a possible issue with the camera that would cause intermittent problems like you are describing.

Have you accidentally hit the 3d button? I've hit it by accident and alignment time takes forever and I have to restart my iPad to make it go back to normal.

Thanks @ Matterfix & GamelLarry,

Sounds like good advice. I will try a different (older) 1TB iPad tomorrow and see if the align time and capture app. stability is any better.
I had been wondering if perhaps the wifi hardware on the camera could be damaged, but I suppose if that were the case it wouldn't start the scan rotation, but that's not been a problem.

I'm not even sure where that 3D button is on the Capture app if I'm honest, but I'll stay away from it once I find it!

I reread your initial post…there are two phases that happen once the camera has finished its scan rotation, first is that the data gets transferred from the camera to the iPad (the little status bar shows you that progress) then secondly the app on your iPad processes the data and aligns the scan and places it in your model, on the floor plan. Which of those two phases are you seeing the longer times in?

@Matterfix, so it's definitely the aligning progress bar stage that takes time, as soon as that disappears the scan appears on my screen. Does that indicate a certain issue? Thanks for thinking on this

Also, I'm using a different iPad Pro today, and same issue, - after the 20 second rotation, it takes 1 to 1.5 mins to complete the "align in progress" phase.

@Noddy is the capture app full with spaces? I had the same issues. I deleted many many spaces from the capture app and then it was ok again.

@Meshimages, yes I do have a lot of scans in the capture app - I will try that soon, thanks!
Still have plenty of available memory in the ipad though, so I thought that wouldn't matter, but apparently it does

@Noddy I thought so, too. My ipad pro has 1TB total. I had about 450 GB in the capture app and then I was facing the same issues. With the Pro3 it got really slow after 350 scans. 1,5 mins per alignment up to even 3 mins. Then I deleted a lot of spaces, duplicates etc. and it became better. I don't know if the deleted spaces were the fix or the multiple re-starts, but now it is better.

So up to and more than a minute isn't normal? LOL...

I'm like on my third scan before I get a message that it didn't align.

@MatterFix

Is the trouble reported above an indication that the Matterport Pro3 Camera needs to be calibrated?

@DanSmigrod TBH, misaligns for me are usually me trying to do stuff with less scans needed... Example, I'll scan at the outside of a door then go further into a room than I should.

@Dan Smigrod, interesting thought about the Pro3 possibly needing calibration..
@Matterfix -do you think that could also cause these issues, or not likely?

At my earliest chance I'll clear the scans off the ipad(s) and reset, I hope that does it -I'll let you know if it does.
