Video: Shop Talk 55: Matterport Digital Twin Platform: 2023 and Beyond | Video courtesy of Matterport YouTube Channel | 6 December 2023 Screen Grab from video above (at 55:55) Did Matterport (accidentally) reveal it is working on autonomous scanning? Hi All, Did Matterport (accidentally) reveal it is working on autonomous scanning? At 55:52 in the video above, Matterport may have accidentally revealed that it is working on an autonomous scanning solution. When Matterport Senior Evangelist Amir Frank says Matterport does not offer autonomous scanning, he does add "not yet" and both Amir and Matterport VP, Product Preethy Vaidyanathan smile (at 55:55 in the video above). Do those smiles reveal that Matterport is working on autonomous scanning solution such as a robot or drone for capture? Many WGAN Forum members have discussed using robots for scanning. And, drone scanning has also been discussed in the WGAN Forum. Other scanning companies already offer drone and robot scanning, including Leica: Leica Announces BLK Paired with Robot and Drone for Autonomous Scanning. In theory, I could image a proof of concept test provided that the robot or drone output could be sphers (equi-rectangular jpgs) since Matterport already supports importing 360s from any camera source and using Matterport CORTEX AI to create a tour. This feature is discussed in the video above starting at 9:03 through 12:47: ✓ Import any spherical images to create a Matterport 3D Tour Given that labor time is the biggest cost of Matterport scanning, I could imagine that Matterport IS working on autonomous scanning. One (quicker) way to achieve this might be enabling Leica's existing BLK paired with a robot and drone for autonomous scanning solutions to work with Matterport. What are your thoughts? Did Matterport accidentally reveal that it is working on autonomous scanning? Happy holidays, Dan |

Definitely create a Matterport autonomous drone. The capabilities of a facade or roof inspections would definable increase the value of Matterport. This will improve my business as well.

I am expecting DJI will release a similar solution to make a tourmaker on their drones sooner or later. AI will help to provide smooth free fly through experience and all measurement to build CAD or BIM. Matterport's real competition will happen then.
