HI, They offered me the used BLK360 G1 at a great price. I wanted to be helped whether it is an opportunity or not. I would like to use it as an alternative to my PRO3 (of which I am a happy owner) using the Matterport Capture App and thus avoid the cost of Leica programs. Thanks for your suggestions. E.B. |

You can use it with Matterport and avoid a costly Leica Cyclone Register subscription by paying for the .e57 downloads from Matterport as you need them. The BLK does produce a better dollhouse than the Pro 3 inside Matterport I have noticed too. If you use it in conjunction with a pro 2 you can get better results in the photos as well meaning you have an edge on the Pro 3 in both worlds (3D and photos) at the expense of signifigantly longer time on site (like more than double). However if you want to avoid Leica's costly software, be aware that I found the e57 created with Leica Register to be better quality than the one downloaded from Matterport. It is not a bid deal in most cases but just be aware they are not exactly the same. Also Cyclone Register can create a Recap file with no need to re-register in Recap, so it saves time if you are using it for non-Matterport purposes to register in Leica's more expensive software. particularly inmportant with the bigger spaces you would likely scan if you use the Leica G1. On the bright side Leica's Cyclone Register does have a lifetime license option (though it is hideously expensive). |

Mechanically, Leica's batteries charge faster than the Pro 3. So you can potentially scan contiuously if you use the charger and the three batteries the Leica comes with. Also the Leica doesn't freak out if it shakes around a little bit when you scan so you can put it on a big pole like the pic below to get those hard to reach spaces. Even better the Leica stores the scan data internally making it possible to scan in a team and combine the data later on one iPad after the job is done (though it takes a little practice to get the scan points to combine well). This can save you big dollars as you won't need to pay Matterport to stitch spaces after the job! |

@Meidansha Thank you for your precious advice. Surely the .e57 file processed by Leica Cyclone Register is better than the one generated by Matterport, but I didn't want (for the moment) to "manage" two subscriptions at the same time. I will definitely contact you to "steal" some tricks to "align" the scans between BLK360&PRO3, so you can use two "scanners" at the same time. E. P.S. If you already have any advice for me... it is fully accepted |
