Make someone's secret public was good or not? Something like one kind of technical bully to the "victim" who is making money from it. But MP is using glb format as their LOD mesh files for a long time from the Pro3 released. DAM is an old story already. |

Publish the process just make easier for everyone interested in it, and save some steps and work. It's like use New Pipe or yt-dlp to download a youtube video, yeah, the "good" behavior is buy a youtube premium account, but I think, this doesnt damage MP interests because for professional use this kind of free open source tools are not reliable, e.g: matterport-dl doesnt work since months ago and it's not updated. These tools are more for learning, small and personal use. There is some difference between .DAM and .GLB format? I saw glb files are divided by rooms in every model, but I think it's the same thing. |

How about decoding the meshs on sketchfab.com? Do you think it is the same thing of decoding DAM of Matterport? At least from technical side they are the same thing. It is true that every one can try to decode it and show the result to the public as a hobby or research purpose. But make the decoder public DO harm to the owner or designer on Sketchfab.com who just want to share the render result of their works only but not the mesh files. If they knew the files they uploaded to sketchfab.com can be decoded by anyone, do you think they will continue to use sketchfab.com to show their works? So the format of the mesh file is the top secret of sketchfab.com. I think the same thing happened to Matterport too when they use DAM format. It is a protection to all owners of the online tours. You may use it or study it but don't have the rights to public it, because you are not the owner of it. |

Quote:Originally Posted by JuMP Good point, but I think a company who make a professional use will keep using MP official services. Because you can't build a business plan over these tools that can stop of work when you less expect. It has no guarantees, it's not the same than official service and support. These tools have no guarantees of any kind, it's not reliable for professional use, just to make some test. And I insist, this is not secret leaks, this is public available information, it's a public web viewer, and anyone can do the job with the right knowledge. A secret leak would be publish a non-disclosure signed code or document, this is not the case. It's web data scraping. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_scraping |
