Curious if anyone in this forum has converted a schematic floorplan to a "Wayfinding Map". Got a retail store asking about having a display that could change seasonally to point out where different departments are and also pinpoint bathrooms, cashier, etc. This is completely out of my wheelhouse to create but wondering if there's any easy solutions that can do this. |

Thanks @DanSmigrod, The AR Wayfinding is cool but not something this customer is looking for. They more want a stationary kiosk that would have a schematic layout of the property highlighting where certain things are. Also, it's a retail store that changes seasonally, so they don't want to have it as an actual Matterport tour as the inventory on the shelves changes rapidly. The Matterport would be sufficient to get the schematic floorplan but that's about it. It looks like there's lots of Wayfinding solutions out there but most of them are tailored to places like large retail malls and are priced out of consideration for independent retailers. |

We have some experience with touchscreen wayfindings for events and shopping malls. Given the range of possibilities, it's important to understand the expectations of your client. e.g. - Is it enough to have a simple map with hotspots revealing basic destination information? - Is it necessary to categorize the businesses and let users filter / search them by name? - How important is to show the path from the kiosk to the final destinations (e.g. using services like https://www.pointinside.com/) There are also other considerations, like hardware, number of stations, how to maintain the content, who designs the visual updates, etc. |

@Tosolini Simple map with hotspots revealing basic destination information is all they need. They would just need the hotspots to change seasonally as its one large store that has a nursery for plants and also clothing section and seasonal gift section. We had completed a Matterport tour for them once upon a time which was highly viewed but they grew frustrated because people would take screenshots to ask for items that were no longer there. So basically at 3D Schematic floorplan with hotspots showing what is on display in different areas is sufficient. |

@Queen_City_3D I see. At a high level, you probably need at least the following: - A touch screen or a dedicated kiosk - A mini-PC (e.g. an Intel Nuc or a Brightsign Digital Player) - If you go for the PC solution, you can use an authoring software like Intuiface; if you use Brightsign, they have their proprietary editing tool - A database populated with the necessary info (either online or in Excel) There are a variety of other variables to consider, e.g. - Number of stores to feature - Graphic design guidelines - Number of stations and their connectivity - Type of information - Who will update the content and their technical abilities - Need for an attract loop to rotate ads when in idle mode - Budget considerations All of these items will help determine what solution is best for your client. I'm happy to sync offline and have a chat if you wish. |
