Take a look at the next scan quality comparison video! This time we looked at how the different devices coped with exposure to bright daylight coming in through a window. This has a bearing on the sharpness of what we see outside the property. We took 6 scans in the same location, with the same lighting conditions and capture points.

Our conclusion:
iPhone Xs Max – faded colors / shifted view / dark interior
iPhone Xs Max + Matterport Axis – brightened outside view / blurred details
Ricoh Theta SC2 – brightened view / faded colors / poor outdoor view sharpness
Matterport Pro2 – color range too warm / daylight interferes with the sharpness of the image adjacent to the window
Matterport Pro3 – good color rendering / sharp outside & inside view
Leica BLK 360 G1 – the brightest view / blurred details / daylight interferes with the sharpness of the interior view adjacent to the window

The best result was obtained with the Pro3 scanner as with the previous test. Interestingly, our iPhone did better show the view outside the window and the effect of strong daylight on the interior view than the 360 cameras - Ricoh and Leica. However, it should be taken into account that both devices perform far better when their images are processed by their dedicated software. And our test concerned only the Matterport environment.

It will be interesting to see if this trend will be similar during the external test, which we will report to you soon.

The comparison in this form was made possible by synchronizing the scans in the STAGES platform and reviewing them simultaneously using the Compare View function.

We are curious to know what your experiences are with indoor exposure in bright daylight.
