In this blog post today, I compare Matterport and Floored. Other thoughts about how these two 3D platforms compare? |

Do I read your post correctly that Floored has their own camera?

Yes. Camera not for sale. Used internally by their photographers.

Is their camera just an upgraded Matterport?

Best guess: using a laser scanner for greater data capture. In the Matterport User Group thread, Related Companies, Products and Services, you'll find at least 30 other scanner solutions.

Floored were using a Matterport not all that long ago.

@Tim @EscapeVelocity One of the (press) articles on the Floored website talks about their switch to a laser scanner solution. |

I think that would be a smart way for them to up-sell their capabilities. Low to medium density = Matterport. High density (high $$$) Laser.

i have seen the Floored instrument I went to their office last summer for a presentation. Their instrument its a DSLR camera combined with an off the shelf laser range finder they are sandwiched between essentially two planks with a motor at the bottom and a small android tablet wired in runs the whole thing. They wrote their own software to stitch the captures together without targeting. The result that I saw was processed as a deliverable that looked like a point cloud scan i didn't get that close a look at the deliverable. I did spend time on their website to see a model that was created, this is just my opinion and I may be wrong but it seemed as though a great deal of post processing was required to produce the models that they post online. They had no intention of selling the device but as I understood it they may possibly release a schematic so that you could make one yourself. |

it is actually a reverse engineered ultra cheap point cloud scanner where Matterport is a true photogrammetry device

What Floored features would you like to see Matterport include in its planned 3D Studio? Dan |

Dan Excellent question When I complete a scan and process it I want to be able to download an OBJ file, an architectural floorplan in .dwg format(visit an app called Magicplan), I would also like to download a generic parametric revit model .rvt. An option to download a file that will transit to whatever software you choose rather than by file type would be excellent too. To that I would add that Matterport is devoid of any survey practice related to accuracy. Options to identify targeting or an established control circuit would be great too. |

i missed your question my previous answer was my Matterport wish list. What floored features would I like to see included ah none that I am aware of its a different animal can't say there is a feature set there that would compare Have you navigated a floored model online its somewhat difficult so I wouldn't say there is a feature there that is a must have. |

@vincent Three Floored features I would like to see in Metterport: 1. Index to fly-in by room name 2. Full-screen icon (Floored has a better resize icon) 3. Exterior of building Other ideas inspired by Floored? Dan |
