Hello all! I am interested in starting a capture service business. I have experience with the Matterport Pro2 camera, and own equipment. I live a large market for real estate.

I am just here to learn on how to go about getting a legitimate business off the ground.

Where are you located?

I really, really don't see the wisdom in trying to make your living only selling 3D scanning. It's like trying to be successful with a restaurant that only sells french fries.

Better to offer burgers, fries and shakes.

Well, that is the ultimate goal. It is not my intention to limit myself to one aspect of a service. Just trying to get started. I am in the NYC area.

I agree and have experienced this. I started with only Matterport and it quickly expanded to many services to support and retain the clients I have. I focused on residential real estate agents first. Typically brokerages will have meetings at their office once a week and invite a guest speaker. I called up my local offices and managing brokers and asked to speak at their meetings. Presented services (at the time just Matterport!), went to about 5 brokerages, and have never done a presentation like that since. Thankfully I've had great success with referrals/word of mouth.

I bold residential real estate agents as they were and continue to be one our best clientele. This worked in my area as fields like commercial real estate and those agents here do not do much marketing and its a tough sale..
New home builders/multi-family builders, and rental companies both long and short term have been great too.
I cold called a handful of times, went to local networking meetups, and created relationships with other marketing companies that did not offer Matterport. There are a lot of photographers or marketing companies that do not have a desire to provide Matterport services, and will refer it out.
I have not sought work with businesses, but will work referrals on those. Mainly Matterport converted to Google Business View and photography for their websites, social, and Google Business. If you want to work with businesses give their online presence and google Business page a look over, can work from their on selling services... Learn Google Business features and general SEO...

Make sure you figure out your business cost. Taxes, insurance, equipment, how you are going to charge for hosting Matterport tours, does the client have their own Matterport account to upload to, travel fees/areas you service.
Photography has turned out to be a great service, we outsource our editing.
Learn the industry and your clients marketing to some extend. Like how real estate agents use your marketing material... real estate agents upload to their local MLS and it syndicates the home listing online > Zillow has additional features > Realtor.com has additional features > where do agents use or post a 3D tour, video, etc.
Get you and your business legal, licensed, insured, etc. Tell your clients this! There are many that are not and its a selling point...
