How Many Scans Does Matterport Hold on Their Account16978

Hi all!

I was watching an older tutorial about how to make a scan using the android capture app.

I want you to look at the bottom left corner of the pic I will post below.

How many scans does Matterport host on its account?

This figure is too big for advertising purposes but too small for the company's own public comments on how many scans they have under management.

Is it possible they are perpetually crawling scans for useful items in case they get deleted later by clients or MSPs?

@Meidansha

Matterport says they have 7.3 million "spaces under management", on the Matterport Investor micro-site. (15 June 2022)

Does that answer your question?

It answer's as I expected. But the number diplayed in this video uploaded to Youtube on March 19th this year displays a curious number.

Who made these 138,499 scans?

As I understand the owner of the account hold's the copyright and allows Matterport to use the scans for the purpose of "the business" as described in the Cloud Subscription Agreement.

I find it hard to believe with Matterport's work force that they have made 138,499 scans on their own.

But why just these scans and not the other 7 million?

@Meidansha

Could those scans be via Matterport Capture Services On Demand?

Your guess is as good as mine, but possibly.

But even being the case is not the workflow to capture on the photographer'S account and send to the client when uploaded?

I can't be sure Cap Serv is not available in Japan ATM.

@Meidansha

I would imagine that the Matterport Capture Services On Demand program requires:

1. Uploaded directly to Matterport Cloud Account: not the photographer's Matterport Cloud Account
2. Photographer not permitted to retain a copy of the model (e.g. can't use the tour to promote expertise

I do like that you identified that number within the Matterport video. Sharp eye!

Thank you for clarifying that point on workflow.

The number threw me.

but from the end user's perspective a scan with Cap Serv may mean that Matterport will hold the spatial scan indefinetly.

This is not a big issue for me personally as I am a photographer and if I entered into an agreement with Matterport to not retain any rights on my work then it would be a case of "easy come, easy go".

However for some clients, if they knew Matterport would hold their scan separately and perpetually indefinetly they may think twice about scanning through Cap Serv.

A little more clarity may be necessary here.

Sorry to Amir, who I have found his videos to be so informative.

@Meidansha

Points taken.

I could imagine that if a Matterport Capture Services On Demand client did not want Matterport to retain after x day, then they could ask for their Matterport digital twins to be "deleted".

Sounds logical. I wonder how this is actually being handled.

Thank you, Dan. It's late here and I will look over this in the morning.
