Traverse.to is an interesting development, that I came across recently. The guy, who is developing this, is @hasnain from India. The app is free to use. Traverse.to allows you to meet 20 or more users in 3D environments - these can be iPhone scanned 3D spaces or also Matterport OBJs (which have to be converted to a GLB file format to make it play in the app). The app is still in early stage, but it brings you total VR immersion. Even more immersion than the Matterport VR (panorama) version, because you have total freedom of movement (6DOF) within the 3D OBJ (teleportation). And you have an avatar with hands, feet, voice and free movement. A completely new experience for Matterport 3D spaces. After registration you can meet in VR and/or via Web-Browser. The VR version plays on Oculus Quest via Sidequest. Here is the tutorial how to install the VR version. As a registered user you can also upload your own spaces. Maximum file size is 50MB and/or 500.000 polygones. Hasnain helped me with my Bickford2 space - which is worth a visit Take a look at the video to see what it looks like. From minute 1:55 you see the VR version and the Browser version. |

@MeshImages Thanks for sharing. Very cool! What might be a commercial use-case of "walking around" inside of a Matterport .obj file that has been converted to a GLB file to use this platform? Best, Dan |

@DanSmigrod Good question! AEC is a use case for sure. This app is in a very early stage, but it could integrate a simple drawing mode to reconstruct the space to 3D CAD within VR. Or to take and leave notes in there. I think any "bespoke" virtual experience can be a use cae. What I liked a lot was the avatars, the communication and the 6DoF movement, which all adds to immersion and impression. IPhone 3D Scans are also getting better every day, therefore I see gigantic commercial potential in this approach. @DanSmigrod, maybe this is even a better investment than Matterport |

@MeshImages Ah! When the scan data matters: not a marketing experience. Thanks! Dan |

@DanSmigrod Everything, that profits from many to many communication, can be a use case for this: marketing, real estate, e-learning and commerce. But in the end you have to focus on a specific industry and create a solution that adds up (said Steve Jobs) . |
