I recently came across an ad looking for a 3D scan techs, I noticed they offered the same opportunity whether you had a Pro 2, Pro 1, Theta Z1 or Theta V camera. I know many of us take on opportunities from third party companies, but do you agree there is a difference to a Matterport Pro 2-3D versus a Theta Z1? There is an obvious difference in acquisition costs and quality, and I'm wondering if you agree to be paid the same amount regardless of the camera or do you think as a Pro 2-3D user you should be paid more? Thanks in advance for your answers. |

For those cameras I charge the same as there is not enough difference in price, quality or use to charge. The theta I run just because it makes some jobs possible that couldn’t be done with the other cameras (like the inside of cars etc). For the Leica BLK I charge a 33% premium. |

I think from a photographer's point a Z1 should cost the same fee to do a tour with as with a pro2. It does not seem to be faster to do a Z1 pano converted to 3D and aligned with the rest as with a pro2. Taking a pano time is faster but add 3D conversion time, alignment and a time to hide and come back and I do not believe there is any significant saving over 37 seconds that it takes with a pro2 and an Ipad Pro 2020. From a client's point however it really depends if they want almost 7 times of resolution that a Pro can provide over a resolution of of a Z1. If it is the same fee I do not think anybody will choose a Z1 tour over a Pro 2 tour. If you offer to do a tour with a Pro2 for a bigger fee that is when it depends on what is a difference in fees. Some clients will go for the best quality others will choose a cheaper version to save. I do however have few clients that just have come to me with a demand to do a tour with a Pro2 camera only. |

This is a valid question and one Matterport should consider also... | ||

Thanks for the replies. With a Theta you have to disappear from the scene completely instead of follow behind with the Pro 2. Not sure how much time that really saves. And with 95% of listing still without a 360 or 3D virtual tour perhaps the price point is still a little hefty for some agents despite historically highest commissions ever. I think what is prudent is offer two versions of the Matterport tour, standard and Premium. I would like to give my Theta Z1 more work. Standard would be less scan points, No frills, Theta vs premium, more scan points, highlight tour available, matter tags available, highest quality. Regretfully compared to the Pro 2 3D with a 8 plus hour battery life, the Theta falls short in our wishlist of having a very short battery life, without additional support. |
