In this new experiment, we used a presentation tool called Mental Canvas to combine photos and drawings in a visual story that offers more depth than a typical PowerPoint. Mental Canvas can augment your drawings with spatial strokes, 3D navigation, and free-form animations. Think of it as a Prezi with 3D capabilities. Artists can do some cool things, as showcased on their web site. |

I love the things you come up with - it's always a treat. I'm not an artist so, to be honest, I think I could do almost everything they show using ScreenCast-o-matic and some drawing tools (e.g., Powerpoint) . . . for a lot cheaper than $55/mo. (annually) for an individual. One could argue that 3DVista could also be an alternative. If I was a graphic artist, though, I might feel differently.

@eagleprecision you raise a good point. I spent several hours trying to learn Mental Canvas tricks and get closer to some of their showcase demos. I ended up creating a presentation that doesn’t give justice to the tool, because I’m not an artist. In the right hands, Mental Canvas can be very powerful. I guess I’m not ready to abandon PowerPoint :-) |

I'm a Powerpoint advocate - I use it for any images that need to be marked up or incorporated into a document. I learned how powerful it can be while doing some work for Microsoft in Redmond - people there were using it for everything: Work Breakdown Diagrams, system & workflow diagrams, fancy illustrations for marketing; website graphics development, etc. I'm also a fan of Screencast-o-Matic for its ease of use and low cost for marking up and merging videos with other media. For instance, I did something similar to your maps of Italy using Google Earth in which you can actually "travel" virtually to a location while having the Screencast-o-Matic screen capture on. When combined with a 360 tour video, it looked like you fly into the location from outer space and, using drone video, fly around the exterior and then right into it for a 360 tour of the interior - all easily merged and annotated with minimum editing hassle. Photos, signs and other labels can all be added using its simple editor. In another video, I substituted the drone video for a Sketchfab video auto-360 rotation of a photogrammetry 3D model of a model home (for the builder). So, I'm just agreeing with you - between Powerpoint and Screencast-o-Matic, I feel I have all the power I need for now (until some client decides they want something different). |

I did a similar one for another builder in the area in which I merged exterior 3D model and 360 interior tour into the video but they decided to go only with the 3D model: https://libertyhomesandbuilding.com/homes/palmetto-ii-model-in-bf/
