Hi folks, Our team is working with a client in the commercial space who is looking to capture a Matterport tour of their entire building in one dollhouse. The space is made up of several floors totaling ~ 300k SF. We are currently planning to film each of the floors/different areas as one model (with overlapping staircases) and then go through Matterport's stitching process to try and connect the various floors. We've already connected with several folks on Matterport's Customer Success team and they have set the expectation that we may be able to connect 2-3 of the models, but making one large model is almost guaranteed to be impossible and it won't process. Working backward, the main question to ask is why does the client want one large dollhouse? From what has been explained, being able to see where you are at any point of the building is super important (ie. which floor/area), as is understanding the flow of the various areas relative to one another, and a dollhouse view of the entire space showcases this all the best. My questions for the community: 1) If the team is ultimately open to using a separate platform other than Matterport, what would you suggest for something like this? 2) If they are set on using Matterport to showcase the different areas, what platform would be best to pull all of these areas together into one dollhouse? Thanks in advance for the help! Noah |

Hi - we recently captured a 150k sqft model with matterport. We captured as separate floors so 6 models in total. We then used Kuula to create a digital map using a few 360 shots from our drone that we then used to display hotspots on each floor | ||

Thanks, @ukvisualimmersion Sounds like a great project! Did the Kuula route give you the ability to see an all-encompassing dollhouse (or something similar/comparable) of the 6 models together? |

Sadly not dollshouse but the building in totality, a dollshouse would have looked amazing but very difficult and also does not have massive benefit to the end user and also some of the space was just an empty warehouse. Each separate model was linked via the stairwells as well so you could walk through all areas if required. |

You can try it with a single stitched 300k model, but I doubt, that such a 3D Matterport megamodel would load in the browser (maybe in 5 years from now). If it loads it will be very slow and uncomfortable to navigate. If you go with Matterport (even without dollhouse) I would use an add-on service like MPEmbed or MPskin to combine the different models into one tour. MPskin would be my recommendation for this specific case. Additionally you can combine the dollhouse images in Photoshop and present this view as loading screen. Alternative tech recommendation is (as always) 360 Photorgraphy plus 3DVista and if you and your client prefer a hosted platform you should also have a look at seekbeak. Seekbeak is like 3Dvista in the browser. |

I think the best will be to do each floor as a separate Matterport tour with stairs. Then ask Matterport if they can stitch it with some reasonable time. If they refuse or cannot do it fast enough you will have a tour for each floor which you can use with a 3rd party VT platform. As for the best way.. may be use a front shot flat 2D image from a building/drone nearby to show all floors from the ground to the roof in one photo. Then if you use a polygon tool(3D Vista and Pano2VR offer them) you can create a highlight of each floor on this photo like a clickable hotspot. Then if clicked it will open a 3D tour for a relevant floor. |
