| Hi Dan, yes I will try to explain. PTCs Vuforia Engine enables the development of app based augmented reality experiences with markerless tracking. Markerless means that no QR code or image is necessary to trigger and place the AR projection. Instead the AR projection is enabled with the obj from the Matterport scan. You can place AR projections with Mattertags. A great combination! App based AR is ideal for museums and factory floors (maintenance, training, onboarding, monitoring). In theory, because both industries (in Germany and maybe the EU) will probably not allow Matterport scans as -Matterport data is transferred to the US (which is forbidden for most public listed companies in my country) -Matterport data can only be accessed in the cloud - the photographer has no control over the data (I can not delete myself, I have to ask Matterport to delete) and finally - Matterport claims ownership for some of the scanned (created) 3D data (obj) in the TOS. I think the Matterport system is great for real estate, hospitality and shops, but not for professional industry services. |

| I just came across this one (again). ViewAR is an AR platform from Austria and has a nice Matterport integration (plus others like NavVis). I think you don't need the Matterport hosting here, only the Matterpak data. Have a look at this video here. It shows use cases and the backend interface of the app builder. It could be interesting to compare the different AR solutions with Matterport regarding stability, workflow, cost etc. |
