Matterport eBlast received 16 June 2021 | Summary of Matterport Changes | Matterport Terms of Use Hi All, A WGAN Member writes: --- howdy Dan ... Just wanted to touch base and get your opinion on the recent update to the MP terms. If I am reading this correctly, they are now clearly stating that all "moral" IP ownership by the author is non-existent. Contrary to the most recent statement before that where they confirmed that the author will always own the works, but grant MP the user license to do with it what they need to to serve it back to us, and showcase where they want. Now I haven't consulted our IP counsel yet, but based on common sense, I think they would be stretching with this. In [location redacted] for example, there are clear laws about the ownership for a commercially produced piece. Clearly, any company officially selling their services into a market, have to comply with local laws. Maybe I missed a discussion on this topic in the forum. Thoughts? [redacted] --- Your thoughts? Screen Grabs: Matterport Hi All, I wonder how "our data" is being used via the Matterport developer program. Please see above. Dan |

With the newest TOS how can you explain the copyright of all panoramas that captured within your client's buildings are belong to who? Especially for some private places, showrooms or exhibitions. I think Matterport can use those data only after they masked all private information, logo, design etc. Before that hard mask work the usage of that showcase data would cause them lots of problem, even they got the copyright by releasing the new TOS. |

@DanSmigrod And here in lies the problem with Matterport! I love their product but they keep making these types of poor choices one after another. Of course they do some good things here and there too! If they cared they would not keep doing it!

Not surprised. Looks like they'll keep pushing the envelope until someone sues with a class action lawsuit. But since greed isn't illegal, they'll probably find safe haven in some commercial statute that exceptionalizes copyright.
