Hello, I am currently approaching a couple local museums to do their Virtual Tour since they closed due to COVID-19. What are the mains benefits of having the museum online? I think they are scared of having it digital because that will discourage people to visit it when they re open. Regarding schools, what if I do my own catalogue of museum tours and offer them to schools. I read this matterport blogand had the idea to offer the tours to some schools. Thank you. |

Matterport Digital Twin by We Get Around Atlanta Chief Photographer Dan Smigrod @rodrigocastillo I created the Matterport digital twin of an Atlanta museum pre-COVID (above). The museum reached out to me because: 1. The museum's mission of education is beyond driving distance of Atlanta 2. The exhibition was temporary. They wanted to document exhibition to help attract additional traveling exhibitions. 3. Help with corporate sponsors, large donors (revenue beyond ticket admissions) 4. Help teachers escorting school groups plan in advance (how many teachers, location of exits, and bathrooms, the exhibition for lesson plans) 5. Recruit school groups 6. Help increase artwork contributions to the museum Not expressed by the Museum, but still benefits 1. Insurance documentation 2. "As-Built" for renovation 3. Measurements for traveling exhibits To the credit of the museum, they felt the above ROI exceeded the potential lost ticket sales. I would leave the distribution of the tour to schools to the museum. Does this list help? Best, Dan |

There are a couple of Matterport overlay providers that offer pay per view for Matterport tours. I believe one is Tredis and another one is from a company in New Zealand. You can check the following thread for more details. State of Matterport pay per view virtual tours If your client charges for entry they can use pay per view or simply make a tour available after some exhibition ends. It really depends on what it is. I am sure those visitors who are truly interested in some exhibition will still visit it in person even after walking through a Matterport tour. |

Imagine if somebody gave you the keys to the local museum and said feel free to walk through it anytime you feel like it. As Dan eloquently stated, The 3D tour allows everyone around the world to experience their museum. Take the profit aspect away for a second . It takes a 2D picture and brings it to life to people all over the world who will talk about and mention and share about this great museum. Greater global interest means the museum establishes a more dominant trusted name. Classes in tourists and everybody will have a sense how to get around the museum when they actually get there. With the implementation of matter tags with good information and mp3 files and video telling people how great it is. Come on out and save 15% etc etc As for companies that offer layers to the Matterport Tours, I think Openhaus has a pleasing polish that could improve a museum tour. |

I used CAPTUR3D to create to create a virtual tour of a unique football (soccer) museum in the UK. It was during the pandemic so nobody could visit at the time but it did entice people who had never been to come once it had opened again. I can understand the reluctance to put it all online however if they have a special exhibition you can scan everything else up to that point then just have a teaser trailer for the exhibition The Fans Museum in Sunderland |
