How does drone LiDAR work? In this video, I explain the basic principles of operation of an aerial LiDAR system. The aerial measurement system consists of the LASER scanner, IMU, and a GNSS and then the ground unit is a GNSS receiver.

Together these systems work to solve the precise 3 dimensional location of the aerborn unit, the orientation, and then project the laser measurements onto the surface of the earth.

I have some more videos coming that will explain the specs seen on LiDAR units that will help you decipher the meaning behind the different units available on the market.
