Need to get a new ipad and I'm wondering if anyone has any comparison of the latest ipad air vs. ipad pro as far as scan speed with the matterport pro2. Is the extra cost of the pro worth it if I'm really only using it to scan or is the Air with the newer chip better? Thanks for your insight! |

The iPad Pro 2020 has Lidar, great processor. If you are trying to decide between the two, I bought the 10.5 inch which is plenty big enough. I thought it might be too small but having done numerous jobs with it, it has been perfect. You could wait, but for around $700 you can pick up a really great iPad Pro base model which should be all you need if you are only using it for Matterport and a few other things. Also, when I started working for a contractor/commercial jobs, one of their requirements was that I use an iPad Pro. That said, the new iPad Air should be just fine. I was told that the processor in the iPad Pro should be able to handle up to around 800 scans without a problem.

I have no comparison info, but I’ve been scanning with the iPad Pro 2920 lidar for nearly a year and it’s been great. I’ve done models up to 700 scans without a hitch. I got it maxed at 1TB. Highly recommend and I’m still expecting more apps fir the lidar.

I am always buying the pro. Wait for the next generation of 12 inch pros, which are due in March. These new pros will have the new generation of apple processors and work like a Mac pro in your hands. Plus the lidar, which gives you an alternative or add on to Matterport with 3D scanning of rooms and objects (this one not with the lidar). Rooms Objects |

I recently purchased an 11" iPad Pro with 1tb capacity as an upgrade from an older iPad. I recently had a project to scan a 300,000 sq ft High School, which was the reason I upgraded. This was a project for a private Catholic High School to replace the standard walking tour they normally do with new recruits. It's normally a 3/4 mile walking tour, but due to the covid pandemic, they wanted to have a virtual tour replicating the walking tour. I didn't scan the entire 300,000 sq ft of the school, but duplicating their walking tour took almost 900 scans...many of them down long hallways, and 2 full 8 hour days. I only ran into one small alignment issue on day 1 and resolved it quickly. I attribute that, in part, to the new iPad and good planning in advance. This is the almost final product: clickable text We are still going to add video clips of the teachers from each classroom talking about their class and welcoming new students to the school via the metatags in each classroom. |

@BrettMtn I recommend Pro even if it is old. I have the first Pro (I think 2017?) And it works great. I have had 1067 scans and it is the same as 10 scan.
