Screen Grabs Matterport and GeoCV Reach Settlement in Two-Year Matterport Lawsuit Hi All, Matterport and GeoCV have reached agreement to settle the Matterport lawsuit originally filed two years ago (11 October 2019) accusing GeoCV of patent infringement. The two parties reached a settlement agreement on 8 October 2020, according to a document filed with the court (See below) and published publicly on Monday, 20 October 2020. According to the court filing, GeoCV would stipulate that it infringed at least one claim from each of U.S. Patent Nos. 9,953,111; 9,171,405 & 10,030,979; GeoCV would stipulate that it had not carried and could not carry its burden of proof that any claim of the Asserted Patents was invalid; GeoCV would stipulate to the entry of a permanent injunction that enjoins GeoCV; and its officers, directors, employees and all others working in aid or concert with any one of them from infringing the Asserted Patents. As a result of the original lawsuit, GeoCV dismantled its entire company a year go with the GeoCV tech team moving to Occipital. "I submit this declaration in support of Matterport’s Unopposed Motion Requesting Leave to File an Early Motion for Summary Judgment (“Matterport’s Unopposed Motion Requesting Leave”)," says a declaration to submitted to the court by a Matterport lawyer (see above) for an unopposed motion to end the lawsuit. It was a fight GeoCV could have won, but didn't have the money or resources to do so. It's unfortunate. I still think the GeoCV system had the potential to be a huge improvement over Matterport. Now that ship has completely sailed. This will also effectively block future development in the actual 3D capture space. | ||

@immersivespaces Wish I knew the backstory ... Hi All, I reached out to Matterport for an official comment. A spokesperson let me know, "we don't comment on legal matters. Appreciate the opportunity, though." I have also reached out to GeoCV ... Best, Dan |
