Matterport tour created with Matterport Capture (iOS) app courtesy of Matterport Matterport Blog (13 October 2020) The Verdict: iPhone Users Embrace 3D with Matterport Capture app "With today’s announcement of the iPhone 12 Pros with LiDAR, Apple has taken a big step in making powerful 3D sensing hardware mainstream via its ever popular smartphone. At Matterport, we couldn’t be more excited about this development and its applications. It confirms a hunch we long had -- that 3D scanning technology can open up a world of possibilities, not just for business, but for everyday life. It also validates the bet we made earlier this year in bringing Matterport’s industry leading 3D scanning and collaboration capabilities to the iPhone," says Matterport Chiefg Marketing Officer Robin Daniels in the Matterport blog post. "What we didn’t anticipate is how many people would embrace 3D capture on their iPhones and iPads. In just 3 months, over 100,000 people have downloaded the Matterport Capture app to capture, share, and collaborate in spaces like never before," says Daniels. How many upgraded to a $59 plan and what is the retention rate? The 100,000 is just one metric, to fully analyze their growth more info is needed. | ||

Why should I spend hours to create a 3D tour with 50 Mattertags of this single home office room? A 3D tour like the one above does not make sense. It leads to nothing. I cannot move around and I see no reason why I should click most these (annoying) buttons. A very bad example for the use of Matterport. Anti-Marketing. |

Regarding mobile 3D scanning (and photogrammetry) I see strong and powerful competititors for Matterport. I would not make a big bet on this business model. 3D mobile scanning will be more about objects and people and not about room scanning. Matterport should better focus on a Pro3 camera with one-click 360 capturing and a flash lidar. |
