What is the learning curve to become proficient with the Matterport camera and software? 1, 2 - 10 scans? Can I be up and running in a week? If not, how long?

I think it all depends on how challenging are the places you need to scan. I'm still learning after many scans, making mistakes and finding new solutions. But I think 10 scans of different locations would be a decent starting point.

@kpiper143 If you plug yourself in to this forum when someone comes across an obstacle and follow the thread to see what solutions are presented you will leap-frog your own experiential training. There's always the odd problem that can occur with a unique property, but by following other people's advice I'll bet you can have a good quality scan done in no time flat. |

It ain't rocket surgery, but you get the hang of it after 10 or 20 jobs. And pay attention to camera placement when you're walking thru the finished model to see what works and doesn't, like clipping corners, etc. I'm getting almost zero non-alignment messages these days and can now self-diagnose many issues (which makes the excellent tech support folks happy I bet).

I just trained a helper and left him to do it by himself after about 2 hours. By the end of the day, he was showing me new things that were saving lots of time. Of course, this was in an empty, bare walls building. If you are working in tight spaces and navigating around furniture and other obstacles, it will probably take longer as those are complex conditions for this device. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input. Will I need to do 10 scans prior to producing a sellable product or is it just a longer process until I get the hang of it? Residential Realestate will be my primary focus as I currently do digital stills.

Try not to be intimidated by it. Empty homes without furniture or clutter are much easier and a great place to start. My first was empty and it turned out pretty good except that my dog appeared in one of the scans and I neglected to turn off the ceiling fans (they turn into a blue blur). That's how you learn. You'll be up and running in no time. Post your questions here. This forum is very friendly and helpful. Best, Rick Odato, Suncoast Skyview Sarasota, FL |
