Create 3D Tour from 2D plans13142

Hi all,

I have a client with 30 floor plans in 2D for residential new construction. They asked if I can take those and create a 3D virtual model of what the floorplan would look like after the house has been constructed. I took the, "say yes and figure it out approach."

Who can help point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance!

Nick

Wow! "say yes and figure it out approach." Love it! Not sure I would be that brave!

In the WGAN MarketPlace, there are these companies listed that create 3D Tours of Pre-Built spaces.

"Like Matterport, but for spaces that don't yet exist."

Please keep us posted on your potential project.

Best,

Dan

It can be spendy but, it is cheaper than building a speck home:

We sold 3 homes off of this render & just wrapped up the final home (still editing the Matterport tour)

I believe BoxBrownie offers something like that: https://www.boxbrownie.com/floor-plans

There are others who can do renderings but they can be expensive.

As @lilnitsch shared, if the residential new construction are at the framing stage, the spaces can have renderings - virtual staging - done.

Here is a WGAN Member that offers virtual staging of Matterport spaces:

We rendered from the DWG floor plans

Any which way for a quality end product spend the time putting together a DETAILED materials list

Wow! That's cool!

Matterport offers floor plans in .pdf, .png and .svg file formats ... did the developer provide floor plans in .dwg?

Or, did you order a Matterport MatterPak to import into Autodesk ReCap to output a DWG file? (Or other workflow?)

@lilnitsch

Thank you. Very exciting!

The 3D rendered tour looks great!

@Tristate3DNick

Are the 30 floor plans available in:

1. .dwg file format?
2. .rvt file format? (Revit)
3. .skp file format? (SketchUp)

(Either of these file formats will likely speed-up rendering and reduce the cost (versus 2D schematic floor plans).

Thanks,

Dan

@Tristate3DNick

We now work at 3 phases of a property shelf-life (unbuilt, under construction, unsold). We stage Matterport providing it has been physically scanned.

For vitual tour, we can take a floorplan (DWG), create a 3D model from it (3DSMax), then prepare a walkthrough experience.

The experience itself can be made by either:

1) designing a number of 360 renders and adding links join them into a tour expereince. (demo: https://athensvilla.co.uk/daisyvr/Daisyvr.html)

or this demo:

Or this, same property but different tool (I find this one too slow to load but client insisted):

Smaller properties work better than large apartment blocks:

There's many ways to cut it. I tend to advise on going with fastest to load. A Mobile 1st strategy.

Happy to advise.

We can do that, but for 30 homes, make sure your checkbook is thick enough

If you want to do the work yourself, there are a number of options. Sweet Home 3D offers a trace over feature and has all of the assets you would need to automatically create a 3D floor plan. (EDIT) By "automatically", I meant, that they have all of the assets you would need. They won't auto populate!

I believe that @Tristate3DNick is looking for actual 360 views of each room I.e. the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, etc. there are several vendors that offer this it just can be costly ~ but, in the long run it is a lot cheaper than building a spec home

@Tristate3DNick - we've found that 3D vista is probably the most powerful engine for producing the best experience. It's amazing!

I had the same case as you with a client and I solved it with render 360 and TST, achieving a good quality and low cost solution accessible. In some cases we work from cad, others from skecthup and others from a pdf sketch! (After this I added it as an additional product called Cad2Tour)

The option to do it as immersive similar to matterport is possible but I found them very expensive and with slow platforms and not so suitable for mobiles (as unity), but it all depends on the budget.

Here are some examples of small houses that we made

If you did not solve it and you want a similar solution contact me. If you want higher quality rendering options, here in the forum there are many great leagues that can help you.
