quite interesting however resolution is quite low and there are distortions and stitching errors in their example. Hi All, I received this reply today (3 June 2020) from NavVis to my question: the new use cases could be with the NavVis VLX versus the NavVis M6 "M6 and VLX are largely complementary devices. While the point cloud quality of both devices is similar, the quality of the panoramic images of the M6 is superior compared to VLX. For mid-sized projects in the range of 5K-50K sqft and projects with uneven ground conditions, such as construction sites, VLX is the appropriate device since it is more versatile and flexible during the mapping process. For large projects >50K sqft with even ground conditions such as large office buildings, large schools, university campus areas, industrial plants, and warehouses, M6 is the appropriate device since it allows to scan more effortlessly without carrying the weight of the device. In those projects, the VLX would still help to fill the gaps where the M6 cannot go, such as small rooms and stair cases." And ... The second question was regarding the timeline of a VLX robot operator. To answer your question: "The limitation here is not the technical feasibility but rather the strengths of human beings. Especially in complex environments like on construction sites. "Mapping humans" are (luckily) still faster, more agile and more reliable!" Dan |
