How toOutdoorsScanning

Matterport Outdoor/indoor scan: is this a good plan?11960

Still somewhat new to Matterport.

I will scan a house that has a large backyard with a pool area, which I want to include in the scan. My plan for doing this is this:

1. Do it the traditional way: scan the interior, then do an exterior 360 photo or two in the backyard. This is will all be done during day, in sunlight. Then I know and have confidence that I have a finished product.

2. Next I will duplicate this model, then when its dusk, open the duplicated model, delete the outdoor 360 photos, and start scanning the backyard and pool area in dusk non-direct light.

Is there any reason this wont work? will the interior scan being done in the day when its bright, then moving to outdoors where its not bright be jarring for the viewers?

any ohter considerations?

thanks

@rastas You shouldn't have any problems with daylight to dusk transitions. Here is a sample,

Thanks 808... so did you do most of those outdoor scans as the sun was setting? what if the sun set, and it started getting too dark? were you really racing during that small window of opportunity?

The "window of opportunity" is greater than you probably think. I've done some models that were 1-2 hours after sunset.

@rastas

I shot this New York City hotel penthouse during the day (and then at twilight). I hide most of the scans taken during the day. By doing this technique, at twilight, I was able to move the camera anywhere (during the limited window to get the outside lighting to look nice).

While I can't say this technique makes economic sense, I did enjoy the artistic challenge.

(Yes. I should have marked the windows inside and outside.)
