I had a brief problem with the app yesterday, but I restarted the camera/app and it went smoothly from there.

I would hold off updating the Matterport Capture App 4.0 until the Community gets clarity that bugs, if any, have been fixed.

But I have been averaging 1-2 camera crashes a day before the update - so nothing new!

I don't think you can go backwards. I have had about 10 crashes today. But my other photog didn't have any. He is using an older iPad mini...4th gen I believe. I'm using Ipad pro 1st Gen.

I tried to hold off on the update before my scan jobs today. Unfortunately the Capture App updated on its own to 4.0.0 That said, I didn't have any issues with either the App or the Camera all day. No crashes, no alignment issues, no upload issues. I'm using a iPad (6th Gen.) with 128 GB. I have NOT updated the firmware for the camera, even though the prompts are there for me to do it. So I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it....but so far no issues.
