Hi All, I noticed that WGAN Gold Member IFTI PROVision - in this WGAN Forum discussion - is still seeking a Matterport Pro in Twin Falls, Idaho. Please email lindsey.youker@ifti.com and include your name and your location. Happy holidays, Dan -- Quote: Originally Posted by lindseyy Quote: Originally Posted by lindseyy Happy holidays, Dan |

@DanSmigrod Under the circumstances, maybe it would be helpful if IFTI could post an RFQ, which provides information about these projects, but that also stipulates what they are willing to pay to get right down to it before operators waste their time and efforts to bid. Based on my experience in bidding one of their projects local to Denver Metro, plus various discussions I had with WGAN members on the same topic, it appears IFTI wishes to further their business model using local sub-contractor MSPs, which is great, but is unwilling to pay more than "minimum wage" for the work and the risk. All things considered, with time being our first and best commodity, if I can't get paid at least what my local handyman gets paid, I'd rather stick to residential real estate. |

@bryanhscott Thanks, Bryan, we appreciate that feedback and would be more than happy to provide additional context. We're relatively new on the forum and still getting ramped up but do plan to add a blurb about our company for future posts like this. In any case, our goal is to drive up the value of MP scanning in the AEC space because prices have been anchored at low amounts by the fact that this technology was initially intended for smaller, non-commercial spaces. We certainly don't pay anyone below "minimum wage" and, to be honest, we've found that our standard rates are often higher than photographer's self-set rates in many metro areas. If our standard rate doesn't work for you on a particular project because of travel time or any other reason, we're happy to hear what it would take for you to do the job and will certainly consider it based on the urgency and availability of other photographers in the area. We're only successful when we have photographers that are excited to work with us, and photographers are only excited to work with us when they are making good money and getting consistent work, so we have absolutely no incentive to drive wages down. With that said, your suggestion of adding additional context is certainly a good one and will be something we start doing on future posts like this. We'd love to hear any other feedback you may have and look forward to hopefully working together at some point Thanks! Joe @ PROVision |

@PROVision Hi Joe and thanks for responding. On context and more info, no question that more is always better for everyone concerned. I understand that a contractor doesn't want to air out all the laundry, but in order to get best results, it does make sense to provide specs for a bid, which do not violate NDA's, but do circumvent a bunch of assumptions, second-quessing and time spent providing you what you need. Disclosing all the facts will help both contractor and sub-contractor and shortcut the process substantially. This thought from 25 years as a contract manager on multi-million dollar projects. Concerning my prior comment about "minimum wage," this requires some context and definition. From direct, recent conversations with some MSPs who have bid IFTI jobs in the past (and present), my impression is that the winning bid for a 40,000sf space, at one scan per 16sf (vs. a more normal 1 scan per 40sf), is somewhere between $.02 and $.07 per square foot. At this rate (one scan every 4 feet), this is a 2,500 scan job. At 1.25 minutes per scan, that is 52 hours on location. If my shop rate is, say $60 per hour, and I strongly believe this work is worth at least that, then the site-time-only value of the job is $3,120. Add to this the processing expenses from Matterport for this size job, 13 spaces and 13 Matterpaks per Matterport, and even when these expenses are pass-through with no margin, that's another $1,100. Then, factor in the scheduling issues because the space is retail and work must be confined to specific hours and the job spans 8 days. As such, add in another $300 for just trip charges (another pass-through expense), then the job is more than fairly valued at $4,520, or $.113 per square foot. On the low side of the above-mentioned, successful bid range, at a total payment of $.02psf, this equates to $800, which would result in a loss to the operator, based on the above assumptions. At the upper end of the same range, or $.07psf, this equates to $2,800, but after deducting pass-through expenses mentioned, the $1,400 left over equates to $26.92 per hour. There was a minor amount of discussion about the potential for getting this job done in 2-3 spaces, which would clearly reduce the amount paid to MP for processing and Matterpaks, but even MP does not support this, which made the risks too high to overlook based on your published Terms & Conditions disclaimer. So, I am the last MSP on this forum, who wishes to turn away good work, but as you can see from the above, some operators may have similar concerns about profitability. As such, if IFTI can allay these concerns, then I suspect you will get more bids that are closer to your budgeted line item for sub-contract labor on these types of jobs. Again, thanks for reaching out Joe. If I can supply any other info or details, feel free to PM me. Best of luck to you and IFTI on this new line of business. |
