Hi All,

A WGAN Member asks the following (below).

How would you reply?

Happy Holidays,

Dan

---

Hi Dan - Happy holidays!

[redacted]

There are multiple levels or "split levels" in this house.

1. Shoot as you would any other stairway? Add Floors?

2. There is a (s) spiral staircase. I see this WGAN Forum post. Do we know if there was a solution to this?

3. When traveling up the spiral staircase (both) how will the camera see the open floor below, any issues there?

Here's the link. Any advice/thoughts/wisdom for this shoot?
Thanks in advance for the support

Dan, spiral staircase should not be an issue, it just takes few extra scans to maintain continuity.
As to split levels scan them as one level or add floors, whichever is easier - Matterport decided floors during processing. We have no control over it. Adding floors in capture app just gives us less clutter.
Feel free to pass along my number to them, I'd be more than happy to help.

From what I can see in the listing photos - most of the main living areas just have a couple step difference between the floor with no living space or rooms directly below them. You could label those floors if wanted for organizing scan positions.

Spiral staircases can be a chore. The tripod & camera can be successfully balanced by adjusting the the 3 tripod legs to separate lengths then many trips up & down the stairs to hide. Navigation of the staircase in the final model can be tricky do to the open stairs. Once the model is completed you will need to play with showing or hiding scan locations for better navigation. In a pinch a Mattertag can be used to navigate to the upper & or lower levels.

Sleeping lofts with ladders are also a little tricky to shoot

This wasn't one of my best tours but has an exterior spiral staircase & shot at the wrong time of day.

*sidenote* now that I have the Z1 switching from the Matterport camera to a supported 360° camera and using a monopod on the stairs would probably save a lot of heartburn.

Here is an idea on how to set up a camera on a real narrow staircase.
