3D Matterport Printing?20637

Integratedman private msg quote post Address this user
Hello, my team has recently purchased a 3D printer. I was wondering if we could import a Matterport scan
and print a dollhouse view..or any other potential applications with this printer.

Thank You

Hey Gary
Yep export the obj, bring it into one of the 3d editing software, clean it up, export it to a slicer and print. We started doing this before with a filiment printer and then moved on to a resin style (although the bed is smaller)
Depending on the size you need, you might have to print it in sections and piece it together

It is a difficult and messy way to do it to be honest. You are much better having a new 3d model created based on the matterport scan and use that. The obj is always going to be janky and create a sub standard print. If it's something you are trying to sell, perhaps outsource that, get a new model created, sketchup/3dsmax or something, export the stl file and go from there.

I agree with Jamie based on what I have seen in many mesh samples and my own Matterpack ordered. It is not something that you can get out of camera and print straight away. It is all messy with parts of floor/wall/ceiling missing due to light conditions, angles of scanning or less dense scanning. The best if you really want to print it and get something useable is to use it as a reference to build the whole 3d model from scratch. You may not even need to buy a Matterpack and just use a floor plan for creating a 3D model and a 3D tour just for references for textures, furniture and fixtures.

We did this with a sculpture once. Imported the .obj into Blender, cleaned it up, made it watertight for printing. It came out beautifully.
