I tried searching the forum for this info, but the posts all seemed fairly old. Wondering if there’s any easy way to be able to open Matterport files in AutoCAD or convert them? Is the matterpak enough to be able to do this? Client had me scan a building that they are planning to renovate and wants to give the architect files that they can use. Thanks for any help!

@BrettMtn you can take the OBJ file from the Materpak and convert it to point cloud, or buy the Matterport E57 file, which is another MP purchase, which is a point cloud. Your architect should be able to use either file in Autocad.

@BrettMtn

It depending what the use is for. If you need the highest accuracy for engineering or re architecture, as mentioned above to order a MatterPak and use either the OBJ or the XYZ file where both can be imported into Autocad, is one way to go.

XYZ file will give you the highest accuracy since it is as close you can get to the original measured data. Just be aware that if it is a large project this can require timeconsuming manual work and some experience in use of AutoCAD.

One other and faster way that many professionals handle this is by the use of a more dedicated software like Autodesk Revit and Recap. You then import the xyz file into Recap for processing and easier faster cleanup. This as well make it faster and easier to produce the correct LOD needed for your project. Then can export a rcs file from Recap to Revit (or eventually AutoCAD Architect) to do final modeling and export to any CAD or BIM format like AutoCAD DWG or IFC.

If you not have commercial software like Autodesk Revit or Recap or similar you as well can check out the possibilities to make it with import the OBJ or XYZ file into Blender or FreeCAD that both are free open source software that can export DXF and other standard file formats that your clients can import into their CAD software.

If you want to save time and secure highest quality Baezeni will be happy to help you with fast converting and modeling from any input to any output and wished LOD within 1 to 2 days.
