So with hoopla over AI editing, I decided recently to give it a whirl. My first experience was with AutoHDR. I'll keep it short and just say it was BAD. So when Fotello came up via a friend, I thought I would give it a try with little hope based on my Auto HDR experience. Little background...I have shot with lighting for years. So my photos have always been very bright and crisp. I never could get to a place that I liked photos without having lighting. Hated the standard HDR blend. Photos just never compared.

Fotello not only delivered but they delivered strongly. It's not perfect and I definitely ask for a lot of fixes to what the AI does. But their team of humans that fix such issues are pretty responsive. Usually fix requests come back within 4 to 6 hours. And even then, I still do my own post-processing to almost every photo that comes back from them. But that is just my OCD at play. And I always add circles of light and clarity every photo where I want the viewer's eye to go to.

But overall, I will say that I'm highly impressed with the work they're doing. I love how most of the photos come back within 30 minutes minus the ones that I send back for a human's touch. But that gives me time to go ahead and start doing what I do. And ultimately this is a Time saver.

I will also say that the interior photos in homes that have neutral colors... Even without lighting, these photos come back amazing. Even when I'm not using lighting, they almost look like I was using my light. The average everyday viewer will probably not know the difference. Cost wise, it's a no-brainer. I do wish they had a true pay-as-you-go system where you could just pay per upload instead of having to buy a bunch of front. As we know, cash flow can be an issue for many photographers and having to shell out 1200 bucks up front can be daunting. But in the end, you will save compared to what you're going to pay a human editor.

I do have issues with their exterior photos quite often. They seem way oversaturated. The greens are very limey sometimes. But again it's nothing I can't fix myself. What I have learned in the world of of editing, I'm still going to have to fix issues regardless if the human does it or AI does it. It's very very very rare that I hand over to my clients what comes back directly from editing.

So yes, I'm a buyer. I'm a believer. But there's still some kinks to work out over there. It's not perfect. But it's the best AI editing platform I have seen to date.

@pixelray

All great observations! Mine have basically coincided with these as well. Even with the re-do's for reflections and odd little problems here and there, they are heads and shoulders better than AutoHDR, to my eyes.

One very nice thing is that Fotello doesn't wipe your files off their servers after seven days, which is AutoHDR's practice.

I'm totally with you that regardless of who does the editing, I'm always going to be putting the finishing touches on things.

And, Fotello for me is a HUGE time-saver!

Best,

Keith

@pixelray You mentioned the cost as a deterrent.  I felt the same way until I spoke with Harman (co-founder of Fotello) and he told me Fotello has a "Startup Program" package.  Details are buried in the FAQ section under one of the questions, "What if I don't shoot 10 listings per month?"  When you open that question, there is a link to the Startup Program.  It's $200 for 10 listings, usable over up to 6 months.  That makes it a pay-as-you-go rate of $20 per listing (up to 60 photos).  That offer changed my plans.  Now, I'm using Fotello for every shoot and saving a couple hours per listing doing flambient editing.

Here is the link to the direct page

I still pull pics into Photoshop to remove lamp wires and realtor for-sale signs, garbage cans, etc. But the heavy lifting of merging and using Photoshop for flambient is done by Fotello.

You mentioned the difference with adding a flash to a bracket set sent to Fotello.  I tested several sets with and without flash shot added.  The difference is slight.  The colors with a flash shot included are a bit more accurate and textures are more defined.  But for bare room shots, the no-flash brackets are very good and usable.
